Letters of Appreciation are Presented to Local Establishments

Recently, framed Letters of Appreciation were presented to two Leduc establishments for their help to our Club.
* The Royal Canadian Legion Leduc Branch 108 donated the use of their auditorium for our 2015 annual Spelling Bee in April. They also sold some fundraising raffle tickets on our behalf.
* Playgirl Hair Stylists sold a number of our raffle tickets as well.

We THANK them both for their efforts and support of our Club Programs and Activities.

New Members are Welcomed and Inducted

It was previously posted at the end of May that four new members had decided to join our Club since the start of our year and help us try to make a difference for Youth and Community.

Again, we THANK Amanda, Bev, Robin and Stacey for their decisions and efforts.

Club BBQ

*Location Update* Great New; Looks like we will have a number of Optimists so we will have this Party at 8102-163 Street. Take QEII North to Whitemud Freeway exit at 159 Street and turn North. Left at 83 Ave to 163 Street. Turn Left at 163 Street. Green house on west side halfway down 163 Street. Those that are familiar can park in school yard at back so we have more room in the front for the rest. Call 780-483-9482 if lost. ******* Thank you to all Club Members for a fabulous Optimist year!! Leduc Black Gold had a Great Year. New members!, Spelling Bee, successful Raffle and other fund raisers, great NOW events, program meetings plus several other events. Please join in the celebration at a Club BBQ. The Club will provide STEAKS. Please bring a pot luck item and your favorite drink. RSVP to this invite. If we have a small Crowd this will be at my home. If we have a large Crowd then the event will be at my Dad's place. Also steaks will be purchased base on confirmations. Also if any members have Club awards please bring these along as they will be presented at our 20th. Tickets for our 20th Anniversary will be available.

Donation Received from the Rotary Club of Nisku-Leduc for a Joint Fundraising Effort in 2014

At a meeting of the Rotary Club of Nisku-Leduc on July 2, 2015 our Club was presented with a generous donation cheque for our Club's assistance (along with other groups) in selling 50/50 tickets at Castrol Raceway during the 2014 season at the Motor racing facility. That money is then used to support our donations, Programs & Activities.

We THANK the Rotary Club and Castrol Raceway with appreciation for being involved in their annual, efficiently conducted fundraising program which benefits area Youth and Communities.

Certificates of Personal Achievement and Community Spirit with Cash Bursaries were presented on June 26th

On the final day of elementary school which was Friday June 26, 2015 (before summer break) at Ecole Corinthia Park, Leduc Optimist members Donna, Bob and Denise attended the final assembly.
One female student (Liv Sveinsson - Grade 6) and one male student (Marc James - Grade 6) received framed Certificates of Personal Achievement and Community Spirit with Cash Bursaries.
The listed criteria for each honoured student includes:

·  Displays initiative, scholastic effort and academic achievement
·  Demonstrates respect for school rules and the rights of others 
·  Promotes friendship among all students and staff
·  Shows a willingness to be involved in school or community activities and events
·  Has a respect for self, respect for others and is responsible for personal actions  
·  Best exemplifies the Optimist Creed.

The two students were selected by school staff from among a number of worthy nominees within the whole student body. These awards are rotated around to a different Leduc area elementary school each year and this was our Club's 5th year of making the annual presentations.

CONGRATULATIONS to the deserving recipients and THANKS to all the school staff for helping to Bring Out the Best in Kids on an every day basis.

Donation Presented to a local High School Sports Team on June 25th

At our meeting on June 25, 2015, a donation cheque for $500.00 was presented to the Beaumont High School Bandits Football Team for helping us sell raffle fundraising tickets. That money will go towards assisting them purchase team jerseys and other required equipment.

We THANK the Team and coaching staff for their efforts in a Win/Win situation earnings funds for their team and funds for Optimist Club Youth and Community Programs & Activities.

Leduc and Edmonton Dinner Optimist Club Members join in Cleanup of a Hwy 2 section

On the morning of Saturday June 13, 2015 six Leduc Black Gold Optimist Club members combined with members of the Dinner Optimist Club of Edmonton to remove garbage from a section of Hwy #2 south of Leduc. A total of 8 large bags of trash and recyclables were collected.
THANKS to all the Optimists who participated in helping to tidy up our environment.

An appreciated lunch, provided by the Edmonton Club, followed the task.
